My Story
Construction has been part of my life since I was 17.
I started on site and quickly worked my way up, becoming a foreman by the age of 18. From there, I went straight into a carpentry apprenticeship under a brilliant carpenter named Will Bird, who taught me the importance of doing things properly from the very beginning.
Over the next three to four years, I worked full-time on site while completing my NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Carpentry at college, achieving distinction grades. Like most tradesmen starting out, I bought a van, invested in my own tools and began building a reputation for reliable, high-quality work.
Later, I went back to college to study Building Surveying, gaining an HNC in Surveying. I wanted to understand not just how buildings are put together, but how they perform, how they fail and how better design decisions can make a building last longer.
During COVID, I travelled across England building garden rooms using SIP panels. That experience shaped the direction of the business. I saw first-hand how strong, efficient and well-insulated SIP buildings could be when designed and installed correctly.
That eventually led to the creation of Helps & Co Design Build.
Why Helps & Co Exists
Too many buildings are sold. Not enough are built properly.
One of my biggest frustrations in this industry is seeing customers sold buildings by salespeople who have never actually built one.
Too often, the focus is on closing the sale, rather than thinking properly about foundations, insulation, ventilation, waterproofing, structure, detailing and how the building will actually perform in the real world.
At Helps & Co, you speak directly with someone who has spent years on the tools, managed sites, studied construction and personally understands the details that matter.

Meet Henry & Olha

Helps & Co is run by Henry Helps, with design support from his wife, Olha. Together, we combine practical construction knowledge with thoughtful design to create garden rooms that look beautiful, feel comfortable and are built properly from the ground up.
Henry oversees the construction, detailing and project delivery. Olha supports the design side, helping shape spaces that are practical, balanced and suited to the way each client wants to use them.
